Finance Associate (NYC)

Location: New York, NY

Department: Finance

Type: Full Time

Min. Experience: Entry Level engages the public in public schools by giving people a simple, accountable, and personal way to address educational inequity. In this clip, board member Stephen Colbert tells our story.

We started years before crowdfunding was a word. To date, more than 2 million people and partners have donated $534 million to projects requesting books, field trips, technology, and other resources for more than 22 million students, overwhelmingly in low-income communities. Our dedicated team and the culture we’ve built together have made it all possible.

Team Overview

As the Finance Associate, you will play a critical role on our (fun!) five-person Finance Team. The team is responsible for financial accounting and revenue tracking of over $110M in annual donations. With a focus on productivity gains, continuous improvement, and scalable technology, we serve internal and external customers alike: budgeting, expense reporting, invoicing, payroll, and more.

Qualifications and Skills

We’re seeking a process-minded team member who will thrive in a fast-paced and startup-style work environment. You love working with a team, you’re ready to pitch in and support others so that everyone is successful, and you operate at the highest level according to our core values. The right person is:

  • A recent college graduate with a Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a relevant field.
  • Super organized, good with numbers, and loves getting the details right -- on both daily tasks and larger projects.
  • An extraordinary communicator, collaborator, and problem-solver. We love people who take ownership of troubleshooting and can independently develop creative solutions.
  • Innovative and ready to seize opportunities to improve existing processes. You believe in working smarter, not harder.
  • Flexible to evolving priorities and self-motivated to set and meet tight deadlines.
  • Tech-savvy with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and able to learn new programs quickly and communicate details.

You Will:

  • Lead the Accounts Payable function: issue semi-weekly payments, submit annual tax filings, and provide amazing customer service to our cross-team counterparts.
  • Lead the expense accounting function: serve as administrator on our expense reporting system, rigorously track expenses, and “think like an owner” when it comes to opportunities for cost savings.
  • Support all facets of vendor financial management: ensure invoices are processed correctly, reconcile payments against our database, and be the face of Finance to our external partners.
  • Collaborate with our Project Fulfillment team to improve purchasing workflow to allow the business to scale and deliver on our mission to support classrooms in need.
  • Implement high-quality Standard Operating Procedures and accounting controls as appropriate.  The Finance function needs to operate seamlessly day in and day out, and we count on every teammate to bring their best!

Compensation and Benefits offers a competitive salary and benefits package, which includes health, dental, and vision coverage; a matching 401K plan (up to 5% of base salary); an annual professional development stipend, and 5 weeks paid vacation plus national holidays.
